Atonement

I am so grateful about the opportunity I had studying about the Atonement of Jesus Christ this past year. In the past I did not quite understand what it was all about. I knew Jesus died for us so that we could repent of our sins. I am starting to understand that he went through all of the pain for the heartache I would endure in this life. I cannot imagine the pain that he endured for me; I am so grateful for him and the sacrifice he made on my behalf. I have also learned that anyone can come back from mistakes; all they need is a broken heart and contrite spirit. Jesus made it possible to be forgiven of our sins. My goal for the Atonement is to continue to learn about it and apply it in my life.

“We understand that the Atonement of Jesus Christ gives us the opportunity to overcome the spiritual death that results from sin and, through making and keeping sacred covenants, to have the blessings of eternal life.”

Dallin H. Oaks- General Conference November 2011, "Teachings of Jesus,"

"That brings us to the Atonement. Paul said, “As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” The Atonement of Jesus Christ became the immortal creation. He volunteered to answer the ends of a law previously transgressed. And by the shedding of His blood, His and our physical bodies could become perfected. They could again function without blood, just as Adam’s and Eve’s did in their paradisiacal form. Paul taught that “flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; … this mortal must put on immortality.”

Russell M. Nelson-October 1996 General Conference "The Atonement"

"For this reason a Savior would be provided to suffer for our sins and redeem us if we would repent. By His infinite Atonement, He brought about “the plan of mercy, to appease the demands of justice.”

Robert D. Hales- October 2010 General Conference "Agency: Essential to the Plan of Life

"We are not never and need be alone. We can press forward in our daily lives with heavenly help. Through the Savior's Atonement we can receive capacity and Strength beyond our own"

David A. Bednar-April 2014 General Conference "Bear Up Their Burden's With Ease"

"Not only does the Atonement of Jesus Christ overcome the effects of the Fall of Adam and make possible the remission of our individual sins and transgressions, but His Atonement also enables us to do good and become better in ways that stretch far beyond our mortal capacities."

David A. Bednar-April 2014 General Conference "Bear Up Their Burden's With Ease"

Whenever we disobey, we spiritually paint ourselves into a corner and are captive to our choices. Though we are spiritually stuck, there is always a way back. Like repentance, turning around and walking across a newly varnished floor means more work—a lot of resanding and refinishing! Returning to the Lord isn’t easy, but it is worth it.”

Robert D. Hales-October 2012 General Conference "Agency: Essential to the Eternal Plan of Life"

"This change, called conversion, is possible only through the Savior. Jesus promised: “If men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. … And my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.” As we are made new in Christ, our very natures change and we no longer want to go back to our old ways.”

Robert D. Hales- October 2012 General Conference "Being a More Christian Christian"

"Everyone loses his or her way at some point, to some degree. It is through the promptings of the Holy Ghost that we can be brought safely back onto the right path, and it is the atoning sacrifice of the Savior that can return us home."

M. Russell Ballard-April 2012 General Conference "That the Lost May Be Found"

"Through daily, consistent scripture study, you will find peace in the turmoil around you and strength to resist temptations. You will develop strong faith in the grace of God and know that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ all will be made right according to God’s timing."

Richard G. Scott-October 2014 General Conference "Make The Exercise Of Faith Your First Priority"

"It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines."

Jeffrey R. Holland-April 2012 General Conference, "The Laborers In the Vineyard"

"It is my testimony that many of the deepest regrets of tomorrow can be prevented by following the Savior today. If we have sinned or made mistakes—if we have made choices that we now regret—there is the precious gift of Christ’s Atonement, through which we can be forgiven. We cannot go back in time and change the past, but we can repent. The Savior can wipe away our tears of regret and remove the burden of our sins. His Atonement allows us to leave the past behind and move forward with clean hands, a pure heart, and a determination to do better and especially to become better."

Dieter F. Uchtdorf October 2012 General Conference, "Of  Regrets and Resolutions"
